The Zoetis Calf Guard 25 Dose Tray is a vaccine designed to help prevent diarrhea (scours) in newborn calves caused by bovine rotavirus and coronavirus. It is suitable for both newborn calves and pregnant cows. The vaccine is a modified live virus (MLV) formulation that requires reconstitution with the provided sterile diluent before administration.
Dosage and Administration:
- Calves: Administer a single 3 mL dose orally into the back of the calf's mouth as soon as possible after birth. Vaccination should occur before the calf nurses.
- Pregnant Cows: Administer two 3 mL intramuscular doses 3–6 weeks apart during late pregnancy, ideally with the second dose within 30 days of calving. Revaccination with two doses during each subsequent pregnancy is recommended.
Storage and Handling:
- Store the vaccine at 2°–7°C (35°–45°F).
- Do not freeze.
- Use the entire contents when first opened.
- Sterilized syringes and needles should be used to administer this vaccine. Do not sterilize with chemicals, as traces of disinfectant may inactivate the vaccine.
- Inactivate unused contents before disposal.
- Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.
Preservatives:
- Contains penicillin and streptomycin.
