Zoetis Re-Sorb is an oral electrolyte-glycine powder formulated to treat dehydration associated with diarrhea (scours) in calves, including veal calves. It serves as both an early intervention at the first signs of scouring and as a follow-up treatment after intravenous fluid therapy.
Key Features:
- Rapid Rehydration: Re-Sorb is isotonic, matching the electrolyte concentration of body fluids, which facilitates quick and efficient absorption.
- Enhanced Electrolyte Uptake: Contains glycine and citrate to improve electrolyte absorption.
- Convenient Packaging: Supplied in individual double-sided packets for precise dosing and minimal waste.
- Easy Preparation: Dissolves rapidly in water and remains in solution, ensuring ease of administration.
- Palatable Formula: Designed to be palatable, reducing the stress associated with tube feeding.
Usage Guidelines:
- Mixing Instructions: Dissolve the contents of one packet (both sides) in 2 quarts of warm water.
- For Scouring Calves: Administer 2 quarts of the solution twice daily for 2 days (total of 4 feedings). During this period, do not feed milk or milk replacer. For the next 4 feedings (days 3 and 4), mix 1 quart of Re-Sorb solution with 1 quart of milk or milk replacer. Resume normal feeding thereafter.
- For Newly Purchased Calves: Provide 2 quarts of Re-Sorb solution instead of milk as the first feed upon arrival. For the subsequent feeding, mix 1 quart of Re-Sorb solution with 1 quart of milk or milk replacer. Continue with regular feeding routines thereafter.
Precautions:
- Severe Dehydration: Do not use Re-Sorb in animals exhibiting severe dehydration (e.g., down, comatose, or in shock). Such cases require intravenous fluid therapy .
- Antibacterial Therapy: Re-Sorb does not contain antibacterial agents. In cases of bacterial scours caused by pathogens like E. coli or Salmonella, consult a veterinarian for appropriate antibacterial treatment .
- Colostrum Intake: Ensure calves receive adequate colostrum within the first 12 hours of life for optimal health .
- Nutritional Completeness: Re-Sorb is not nutritionally complete for prolonged use. Do not administer beyond the recommended treatment period without incorporating milk or milk replacer.
Storage:
- Store at controlled room temperature between 15°–30°C (59°–86°F).
