Coeur d'Alene River Fishing Report 6.14.2017

Yesterday I was able to sneak out to the beautiful Coeur d'Alene River drainage, while my truck was being inspected. I have been hearing reports of Green Drakes, Brown Drakes, Gray Drakes, with rare straggling Golden Stones. That is to diverse of a menu for me not hit the river.

We've got the fly fishing accessories you need to get out this summer online here.

Conditions were great! Water clarity was excellent, the weather was overcast, there wasn't a wind except for the occasional breeze, and temperatures were in the 60s.

I was right where I wanted to be. We arrived at Bumble Bee campground around 12 pm, and were on the river shortly after. It took us a while to find a few willing trout.

We must have hit 4 or 5 beautiful deep holes before we had any decent action. The trout we did find were clinging to fallen logs, and overhanging brush. The hot flies were a #12 Pink Fat Albert, #10 Purple Chubby Chernobyl, #12 Purple Haze, and a #16 Mini Hot Yellow.

Here's the selection of dry flies we have online here.

I tried a little nymphing with New Zealand Wool as my indicator in a few deeper holes to see if the bigger trout were deep, but found no takers. Not even a "Was that a trout, or a rock?"

The hatch was fairly thin, and very diverse. The bugs I saw were Yellow Sallies, March Browns, Brown Drakes, Midges, and small Black Beetles. Midges were hatching more than anything else, with Yellow Sallies as a close 2nd.

Check out our nymph selection online here.

I didn't bother fishing any kind of midge pattern. As far as March Browns, Brown Drakes, and Beetles, I only saw a few. Not enough to say there was a good hatch. I'm sure the trout still recognize a Brown Drake or a March Brown as food, and will eat it regardless when presented right.
