Dehydrating food is easy. Order online here. Know you what you’re eating One of the greatest benefits of dehydrating foods and creating your own meals is knowing exactly what’s in the food. This is particularly important for anyone with food allergies or other intolerances because suffering a reaction is the last thing anyone wants when they are miles up the trail and help is a far away. Korkers Ice Cleats Review

Boasting a proprietary adjustable one size fits all technology, these Ice Cleats from Korkers provide the ultimate customized fit whether you use a trail shoe or boot. Watch the video below to learn more about this versatile addition to your winter hiking gear. Hi. I'm Bryan Chaney. I'm here at the Mid-State Show with North 40 Outfitters and wanted to talk about some of our new products. This is called the ice commuter. It's gonna be new for fall 2018. It's heel traction and it's powered by the Boa system. So, what we like about this cleat is it's great 'cause it stashes into a pocket really easily. And another thing that's really great about it is it transitions from outdoors to indoors. That's a lot of times a problem for people. With the ice commuter it's very easy. So, basically you lift the boa dial and that releases the tension ... Read more

  7. How to Wash a Sleeping Bag

How to Wash a Sleeping Bag

You'll know it's time to wash your sleeping bag a couple ways, the first of those (and the most wholesome) being the loft test. Loft Test: If you notice a loss of loft in your bag since you purchased it this could indicate that your bag is in need of a full wash (and tennis ball beating). The second method to recognize when it's time to clean your bag- the scent test. Scent Test: This one isn't scientific. If you've been falling into your bed in the same clothes you hiked/climbed/fished/rode in, chances are you've packed in bacteria and debris that will cause that camp smell. Those are both easy ways to know when it's time for a full service washing. But how do you wash a down sleeping bag without ruining one of the most important pieces of the camping puzzle? What you'll need If you use the wrong kind of detergent, you could ruin your e... Read more

  9. Brand Identity: What You Stand For

Brand Identity: What You Stand For

Having a brand goes beyond the name. A brand reflexes the values, the passions, the integrity, and more importantly, the people involved with the brand, from the owner to the consumer. A brand should be synonymous with what it stands for as much if not more so than the product or service that they provide. We ourselves went through a change of name, from Big R to North 40 Outfitters, and try our best to maintain and improve our brand. However, this article isn't about us; it's about at brand that we are proud to be associated with, even if we are only a small part of a bigger whole. Mountain Hardwear is more than what their name suggests, though they live up to that name pretty darn well. With a line of products that is designed to endure the craziest of adventures, that really isn't that surprising. But that is the point right there, I ... Read more

Review of the Scrambler 30 Backpack: A Worthy Addition

Walk into my garage and do you know what you are met with? A barrage of towering boxes waiting to be unpacked. However, if you side step twice, do a half spin, duck down, then pivot to the right, you will be standing in the ideal place to view my 'wall-o-packs.' So even though my wife's outrageously large coffee mug collection and my favorite morning breakfast toast plate are still boxed up, we did manage to organize the packs that propel our weekend adventures. What can I say? Priorities. Want to check out our selection and colors on the Scrambler 30 by Mountain Hardwear? The latest addition to the 'wall-o-packs' is the Mountain Hardwear Scrambler 30 Outdry Backpack. Now although the name may seem too long and lack what marketers call "spice", it does virtually tell you everything you need to know about this backpack. How's the Size on ... Read more

  12. Sock of the Month: July

My name is Bryden Martinez.  I'm 10 years old.  My Dad took me to North 40 for some car parts and he let me buy some hiking socks for my birthday.  He says everyone needs socks for their birthday.  Smartwool was the name, in pink or blue.  I picked blue.  When we got home I tried them on and felt like I was in heaven!  They felt warm and I had a perfect amount of room for my toes to move. My friend and I went camping for my birthday, and I got to try them outside with my hiking shoes.  I felt like they were better to hike in than any other sock.  I tried them with my Keens too, and got them wet when we were making a pool in the creek next to our fort.  It was so hot out, so I just let my socks dry in the trees like my Dad sometimes does with his stuff.  They were dry pretty fast and I used them again at night to keep my feet ...
