Lakes and Ponds Fishing has been picking up more and more with these warmer days. Water temperatures are making the fish more active. Some options to try are top water poppers in the mornings early afternoons. The top water bite could go all day. If you find that they are not eating on top, throw on a wet fly that sinks. As far as flies, find the top water fly that you have faith in and fish it like mad. Baitfish patterns are going to work as well. Woolly Buggers, Clouser minnows, and Galloup's Dungeons. Clark Fork River (ID) Flows are currently 68,600 cubic feet per second. The river is still a little big and off color to start fishing. It won’t be too long before the Clark Fork becomes a fishable option. Lake Pend Oreille The lake is finally back to normal pool! I know this makes a lot of dock owners very happy. There is still a no wake restriction 500ft from shore, but the issue will be addressed this Friday, and probably removed shortly after. The Clark Fork is feeding the lake with stained water, so expect water visibility to be between 2-4ft. The further south you go, the cleaner the water will be. There is still a lot of debris floating around, so be very alert while boating. Surface water temperatures have been ranging from 59-72°. Pike fishing has been great on warm days. Coeur d'Alene River Flow 1,990 cfs at Cataldo and dropping. Fishing awesome guys and gals. Water is coming into shape nicely and fish are digging it. Pick your poison, walk wading or drift boating will be fine. The river is dropping pretty quickly so the upper stuff may be a touch bony in spots for floating but I think you'll be fine for another week or so on the upper waters around Big Hank and down to Prichard. Lots of Green drakes, Gray drakes, Yellow sallies, Caddis mid-day and Pale Morning Duns should be coming on strong here soon. Lots of beetles and ants out now too. Nymphing is still strong, but the dry fly fishing is getting really good too as the water is dropping. Missouri River, Montana It looks like the corner has been turned. Inflows to Canyon Ferry have dropped this week with 6% of the Reservoir yet to fill. Outflows at Holter started down on Tuesday. While fishing has not been bad, it’s likely to get really good. We should see water falling steadily and we will be reaching a normal summer flow where once again, dry flies will be on the menu. Stay tuned. Nymphs Worms, Mayfly Nymphs, Caddis Pupa, Scuds, Sow Bugs and Crayfishy stuff. The Tailwater Sow has been in high demand along with the Gut Sack Sow in gray. Coeur d'Alene River Flowing 3,540 cfs at Cataldo and dropping. Fishing great and getting better. Tons of great reports from over the Memorial Day weekend. River has been dropping steadily and shaping up wonderfully. This week it should keep on fishing great. Lots of green drakes, golden stones, a few salmonflies. Caddis have been spotty but we’re seeing a few. Nymphing continues as the best producer. Tandem nymph rigs have been the go to. Good old standards, like a Pat's with a smaller bead head, and a Pheasant Tail or a Prince will catch fish all day. Or try a big Chubby Chernobyl, which go on sale online at North 40 tomorrow, to represent a golden stone or salmonfly. Use a long dropper so you have a searching rig and you'll primarily get eats on the dropper, but every so often you'll get one to eat the big bug. As the water drops and...

Missouri River Yep, she’s still big. Bigger than last week. Fishing about the same, though. Fishing pretty well. Just be careful if you are not used to heavy water. Margins for error when floating are small. Nymphs Worms are still viable and some are keeping it simple. Lots of other flies are working now though. PMD’s are on the horizon, so your favorite PMD nymphs should be a strong consideration. Caddis are about and the pupa is a good choice. Mayfly nymphs from #12 to #18 are all players. Tailwater sows have been in heavy demand. Be ready to burn through some flies. You might think you are fishing off the edge of where the bank used to be, but you might find some willow branches and those willows are fly eaters. Long Lake Steph Avena, who works in the shop, was able to get out to Long Lake the other day. Here is his report: Fished Long Lake last night, 5/28, for about two hours. Beautiful weather and fast fishing. No crowds but apparently the three-day weekend was a bit packed at this little lake. Damselflies were happening and the 10-to 12-inch cutts were taking just about anything that moved, especially at dusk when the surface activity went off the charts. A purple Renegade worked but anything gnaty would have served well. The north end near the boat launch has great shallows and leads into a few shallow pools that should also be probed during the evening rise. Expectations for June at Long Lake.
