We use the strongbox coating, all of our lumber and wooden ware is made in the U.S.A. and out of Ponderosa Pine. We make the frames as well. This a competitors frame and as you can see, it has a bow in the foundation, which is no good. We have some thin sidebars, not really that good. We try to focus on quality, we make our sidebars a lot thicker, thicker top bar. Nice good beeswax coated fou...

  3. Great Falls, Montana Fishing Report 10.18.18

Great Falls, Montana Fishing Report 10.18.18

Missouri River The outlook is for lots of sunshine and mild temperatures.  The weather is almost too good. Great for going fly fishing.  Not as good from the action side, but fall fishing is always pretty good, so no one should be complaining.  I’m sure we’ll see some cold and darker days soon enough. Nymphs If you like to get out early, you’ll likely do best running longer leaders and fishing scuds, sows, and larger attractor nymphs. As the day progresses, you can run short or even get stealthy with a dry dropper.  Try an October caddis or big orange stimi for your dry and drop a little bwo, zebra or soft hackle off the back. Dry Flies A few caddis are about and with the warming trend, they should keep on flying.  A good friend of mine fished a TFP hi-vis and spent from 10 a.m. until late afternoon this week and caught fish s...

  4. Lewiston, Idaho Fishing Report 10.18.18

    Lewiston, Idaho Fishing Report 10.18.18

Clearwater River (ID) The current flow is 3,260 cfs at Spaulding. Anglers are reporting that the fish they’re catching this year are big. If you have wanted to catch a Big B, this could be your year to have a good chance at doing that. Fish are still being taken on traditional feather and hair wing flies. Intruders on a light sink tip are working well too. The crowds are definitely there, so show up early and stake a claim to your rock. Snake River (WA) The current flow is 14,600 cfs at Anatone. Fish are milling around in the Snake. They’re making their way up to the higher tributaries. There are good opportunities to be had from the Snake this time of year. With the water staying consistent, the flies of choice vary from all we have reported above. Whichever way you like to fish can produce a fish to hand. Grande Ronde River (WA) Th...

  5. Coeur d'Alene Fishing Report 10.18.18

    Coeur d'Alene Fishing Report 10.18.18

Coeur d'Alene River The fishing is great here folks.  Nights are getting much colder, so the mornings are not going to be too productive.  It’s banker’s hours now, so getting on the water by noon is totally acceptable as the hatches really won't kick off until then anyhow.  You’ll want to stay until dark as this is when the October caddis really start to kick in.  There is also a good amount of blue wing olives out as well as small caddis and mahogany duns too.  However, the clear, sunny days will make for much more technical fishing.  So, using longer leaders and good presentations are now the key. Don't be afraid to go back through some of the runs you just fished with dry flies and run a sculpin or streamer through them. Small spinners and soft hackles can prove to be deal sealers now.  Run a small 18-20 soft hackle behi...

    Eastern Washington Fishing Report 10.18.18

Omak Lake (WA) Cold crisp mornings are the norm now, but that is okay. Catch a few Lahontan cutthroats and you should warm right up. The Lahontans are still very active as they continue to feed just out of sight. You might even catch a glimpse of one now and then as they come in to chase some bait fish. Most of the fish are averaging around 20 inches with a good handful hitting over the 26-inch mark. A number of small to medium streamers are working quite well. A few examples would be; a #10 to a #6 epoxy minnow, a #8 deadly shiner, a #8 baby gonga, and a #8 or #6 near nuff sculpin.  These are but a handful that we have been having good success with. I was out the other day and decided to play the indicator game. Balanced leeches in blacks, olive, or purple pulled in several fish. I then switched to bloodworms for a while and had...
