Missouri River, Montana The Mo has been running around 4,600 cfs and reading about 35 degrees below Holter Dam this week. Not bad. Fishing pressure has been light and the catching has been very good. The swing game has been steady with fish taking a variety of small streamers. Nymph fishing can be spottier, but when you find the right flies, you can hook lots of fish. Nymphing is typically the strongest mid-day. I’ve seen some fish rising to midges, but I’ll be honest—when I see them rise, I swing a streamer in their general direction. Sometimes they eat it. Be prepared for some stronger midge action as we move deeper into February. Look for cloudy days above freezing for the best all-around action. Friday looks like a winner. Saturday looks a bit cold. Coeur d'Alene River Buckle up guys and gals, it looks like we are in for a big rain event coming up. Starting Thursday the 8th we are suppose to get a major amount of precipitation and the Coeur d'Alene will climb up to and around 6,500 cfs in two days. St. Joe River Same as the Coeur d' Alene river guys, get ready to get wet as the rain is coming and the river will go up big time.  Stay tuned. Clark Fork River (MT) The upcoming rain for the Coeur d'Alene are could spell more snow for the St. Regis area. But by the looks of the Northwest river forecast the Clark Fork will be on the climb in a big way. Hang in there. Rufus Woods For whatever reason the size of the triploid rainbows being caught has increased to a number of fish being between 6 and 10-pounds. That size of rainbow will definitely put a good bend in the rod. The water flow has increased due to the ongoing release of water from up-reservoir. The back bays and seam water just off of the current is going to be your best bet to hooking into some of these chunky ‘bows. With the higher possibilities of catching these larger trout I would definitely use at least a 6-weight rod. Nymphing a Balanced Leech or a Bugger would be my recommendation to start out with. A black or purple #6-8 TFP Balanced Squirrel leech, #6-8 black or white gold bead Crystal Bugger is a good start, too.
