Infrared Heaters Pros and Cons: Why you Should (or Shouldn't) Buy...

First of All, What IS an Infrared heater? An infrared heater is like a little piece of the sun inside your home or building. Like the infrared portions of sunlight, operating on a light spectrum you CAN'T see, infrared heaters deliver a condensed "beam" of heat to rooms or objects (cold legs at the office?) that are in front of the device. For a demonstration go outside and stand in the sun, feel the warmth on your skin, etc. Now go stand in the shade- you will immediately feel the difference because a lot of the sun's heat, specifically the infrared portion of that heat, is transferred alongside the visible light spectrum. So an infrared heater basically delivers the "heat" energy you feel in direct sunlight- without the entire light spectrum tagging along. The "invisible beam" of light energy that is given off by the infrared heate... Read more

Year-Round Tips to Keep Your Horse Healthy

As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure, and this is particularly true for horses. Providing year-round protection for your horse against preventable problems can help you avoid expensive vet bills or even the tragic loss of your horse. One of the simplest ways to protect your horse is to keep vaccinations and parasite control up-to-date during the course of the year. We've all heard the arguments against vaccinating, and we interviewed a local vet about some of those here, but for those of us who will be vaccinating this year, we need to make sure we are up to date, not just on the actual yearly vaccines, but also the boosters you need (especially with younger horses). We asked Zoetis Animal Health about to tell us what their year-round routine would be, starting at spring when the change in season can increase threat fr... Read more

The Husqvarna 450 Rancher Chainsaw: Used & Reviewed

Putting the Husqvarna 450 to the test... When we all ended up in Monarch staring up at a 70' blue-stain pine, the Husqvarna 450 Chainsaw looked a little- puny for the task at hand. This was a horrible assumption as you can see from the photographs below. The Husqvarna Rancher 450 chainsaw packs a real wallop, if you'll allow me to usurp a colloquialism. It's a 50.2 cc, 3.2 HP made for all-around usage. While we cut down, limbed, and sectioned a huge tree this chainsaw works just as well on broken fence, railroad ties, or any other everyday usage typical on properties here in the Northwest. You can learn more about the specifics of the 450 Rancher on our product page, here. Another cool product spec that was directly related to our little outing in Monarch is the air injection in this chainsaw versus other chainsaws. It has a centrifuga... Read more

  12. How Do I Install An Electric Fence?

How Do I Install An Electric Fence?

When looking to install an electric fence, you need to ask yourself three questions. 1.) Is your fence permanent or temporary? 2.) How big is the space you're fencing? 3.) What animals are you targeting? After you answer these... then the real work begins. 1.) Is your Fence Permanent or Temporary? First things first, this is the best question to ask for a few reasons. Why? Permanent fences and temporary fences use different materials. If it's a permanent fence you're after, then you're going to opt for an installation that utilizes wire (aluminum, high tensile wire, or Gallagher's Turbo Rope). You will need to use wire in a permanent electrical fencing application because it holds up better than (most) tape or rope, and is much more resistant to the weather it will be exposed to out on the range. You'll also want to opt for standard t-... Read more
