Best of ICAST 2018
ICAST for the uninitiated is like walking onto the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. It’s a thrilling feeling that hits you with a ton of energy. It’s the place you want to be if you want to be on the cutting edge of the fishing industry.
People attend because they expect to see to the newest technology in fishing tackle. And, they expect to get a feel for where the sport is going.
For those already familiar with ICAST, this year’s show seemed more grounded compared to last year’s show. It was our impression that vendors really listened to anglers and then developed products that built upon existing technologies.
Of all that we saw, here is the best of ICAST 2018 we think you should know about.
Shimano Curado DC Baitcasting Reel
We first saw this reel in our ICAST: A First Look. Because we think it is a game changer, it makes it to the top of our Best of ICAST 2018 list. The new Curado DC adds Shimano’s unique digital control braking technology to the reel by utilizing a microcomputer to monitor spool speed. It then applies the perfect amount of brake to prevent backlash and maximize your casting distance.
ZMan TRD CrawZ Soft Plastic with a Zman Finesse BulletZ Weedless Jighead
First, the ZMan TRD CrawZ is a compact and lifelike crawfish that is ideal for Ned Rig applications. In the water, the claws float to mimic the natural defensive posture of a crayfish. Secondly, the Crawz pairs well with the Zman Finesse BulletZ Weedless Jighead. The Finesse Bulletz is a snag-free, bullet-shaped jighead. It is built around an extra-wide gap VMC jig hook.
Shimano Tekota A 500/600 Reel – Now in Left Hand RetrieveÂ
Next, the Shimano Tekota A 500/600 Reel has been fully redesigned to now be left handed. Made to be durable, the Tekota features Shimano’s Coreprotect Technology. This technology makes this reel water-resistant, which then, in turn, increases corrosion resistance. The Tekota A is now more compact and ergonomic than its predecessors. It has a higher gear ratio that will keep up with hot salmon running at your boat.
River2Sea Whopper Plopper 75
Built for smallmouth bass the Whopper Plopper 75 relies on quickness and a unique sound, reminiscent of a buzz saw, to attract strikes. Tailor-made for topwater fishing, the Whopper Plopper is ideal for high-pressure situations when the forage base is smaller.
