Tips Before You Start your DIY Bird Feed Ornament

Tip 1: This recipe is time sensitive. The mixture will begin to set shortly after is has been mixed, so do not delay putting the mixture into your molds.

Tip 2: This recipe is designed for a cooler climate. If you repeat this recipe during the summer hours, your ornaments will begin to melt depending on how hot it is outside.

Getting Started:

Step 1: Mix gelatin packet into the boiling water until dissolved. Add the flour and Karo syrup to your mixture. Stir well. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.

Step 2

Add birdseed to your mixture and again stir well. Make sure there are no clumps of seeds in your mixture.

Step 3

Take your wax paper and lay it over your cookie tray. Then, place your Mason jar lid onto the tray and spoon your suet mixture in. Make sure you fill the lid as much as possible, packing the mixture down tight (using wax paper to help you press the mixture will reduce your mess).

Step 4

Take your straw, and stick it into the upper portion of the mold (this will create a hole where you will thread the string through later).

Step 5

Take your tray of bird feed ornaments and place it into the freezer overnight, allowing the gelatin to set.

Step 6

Remove the straw, and thread the string through your hole and tie tightly. You can now hang your bird feed ornaments up wherever you see fit!
