Great Falls Fishing Report

It seems like Groundhog Day around these parts. Every week we wake up to more snow and more winter weather. The Mo has been flowing in the mid-6,000 cos range and running around 38 degrees coming out of Holter. This time last year it was in the low-4,000 range and 41 degrees. Conditions will change soon with even more water, but hopefully some warming temperatures.

On the days when people have been able or willing to fish, the fishing has been great. Low angling pressure and hungry fish have contributed to fine results. I’ve seen some larger than average rainbows and browns lately. We may not have spring-like conditions yet, but the fish are ready for spring and they are eating like they mean it.

Ice Out Lakes—Some small leads have opened up at Holter Lake recently and some fish were caught in open water. We are getting really close. By Saturday, the temps should move up enough to finally start eating the ice away for good. Next week, it should be go time. Get your balanced leeches!
