How to Get Rid of Weeds in your Lawn?

Hi. I'm Amy Grisak with North 40 Outfitters, and today we're going to talk about how to get rid of those weeds in your lawn. Now, if you want to go the old school method with a manual, you could use something like this where you place it right over the weeds, step on it, and pull it up. There's a certain satisfaction to that. But if you don't want to go this route, the number one thing you have to do, and even if you do want to go this route, you need to take care of your lawn and make sure it's healthy. So proper weed maintenance actually starts with a healthy lawn. Meaning, that it's fertilized properly and timely and well-watered, because then the grass can out-compete a lot of the weeds. If you do all that correctly and you still have those weeds coming in, there are some different methods to take care of it. Of course, we have the great little weeder right here, but we can also have chemical methods and you have a couple of options if you do decide to go that route.

How to Decide which Herbicide to use on your Lawn?

Now, a lot of people feel that they want to do the broad
spectrum, to be able to use a fertilizer and an herbicide combination, and that
way they hit those weeds that are most prominent in their area. Other people
choose to go with a spot spray. Now, whichever one you decide to do, you need
to figure out what we do have. Whether it's a broad leaf or a dandelion or
something like that, or whether it's a grass, like a crack grass or crab grass,
which is prominent in so many yards. So once you decide that, you go to the
store and look at the different weed or herbicide options and see which one is
going to work for you. You don't want to spend the time and actually put those
chemicals on your lawn for those that aren't made for that, but once you do,
they're very effective. The nice thing is when they're geared towards the lawn,
they're not going to destroy your lawn because some herbicides, as we know,
will kill everything. But look for those herbicides that are specifically used
for the lawn, particularly if they're incorporated with a fertilizer, and
before you know it, it's going to be all grass and no weeds. So if you need
