June 2017 Spey Casting Classes w/ Zack Williams

Most anglers consider Spey casting and two handed angling techniques to be winter or at least late fall and early spring focused. While that may indeed be true in Montana that does not mean that Spey instruction needs to take place on a frigid winter’s day.

How about working on Spey casting on a comfortable day in the early summer, say June 3rd?

Spey Casting on the Missouri River in June? Introducing Zack Williams

Guess what? Instructor Zack Williams is coming to do a class for us on June 3. Zack is a full time Spey guide and casting instructor, international Spey casting competitor (4th in the world at the 2016 Spey O Rama world championship), and editor of Swing the Fly magazine.

I met Zack for the first time at our Trout Spey Clave this past April. Zack came to represent Swing the Fly Magazine and was one of our presenters. When Zack agreed to come back to Montana in June, I asked fellow Spey O Rama casting competitor Joe O’Brien if he could share a few words about Zack.

While most people know Zack Williams by association with Pate the Chocolate Lab, he does indeed have a few other accolades to his name. His brainchild, Swing the Fly, is a quarterly publication focused on Spey fishing, Steelhead, Atlantic Salmon and more. When Zack is not at his computer working on STF, he can usually be found doing 1 of 3 things. Engineering Spey lines, guiding steelhead trips for Clearwater Steelhead Syndicate and PNW Spey Guides, or obsessing over Sasquatch.

You may also recognize him from the Spey O Rama leaderboard, a top contender in the World Championship of Spey casting. Zack’s calm demeanor, in depth understanding of Spey casting and how to teach it is second to none. Be sure to ask Zack about his love of the Raccoon!

Thanks Joe. Now that we know a little bit about Zack, here are the courses he is offering.
