Tony Lama Boots: The TLX Sole Review

Did you know that the average person will walk anywhere between 70,000 and 120,000 miles in their lifetime?

If you do the math, that is almost halfway to the Moon or 4 times around the Equator. That is walking up and down the Empire States building's 1,576 stairs 5 times a day.

Better yet, how about a realistic perspective for the everyday working class? In a typical 40-hour work week the average person can put in about 15,000 steps a day which is 75,000 steps or 37.5 miles a week. Most importantly these steps are made on or around hard surfaces such as concrete, blacktop or tile even rooftops with a lot of intermittent standing.

I worked as an Assistant Manager in our Moses Lake store from 2009: 2010 and then Manager of our Havre store from 2010 until 2014.  During this time period I spent many 12: 14 hour days and 60-70 hour weeks on my feet walking the store- concrete floors in both locations.

Why we Need Good Footwear when Walking is a Real Part of our Jobs

This leads me to the question of, are you ready for a new pair of work shoes or boots? Remember our visual aid? If you are not convinced by the look of your current footwear, let's ask your feet? How about your back? Even though the question to this question can seem obvious we do not pay attention to the signs as we try to grin and bear this situation away.

Why do we choose to go on wearing the same boots that cause this discomfort and pain? The fact is this is not only a physical effect, it also does a number on our overall happiness. Who can honestly say they are happy when their feet are cold, wet, sore and uncomfortable?

For some people getting home and taking off their shoes and kicking their feet up is the best part of the day. The review below comes from a North 40 Outfitters' employee who has worn many, as you can tell from the picture above, Tony Lama TLX Sole boots.

Reviewing the Tony Lama TLX Sole

At one point in time, I was buying a new pair of tennis shoes every other month to reduce the amount of pain I felt in my knees and back.  I also tried a couple of other styles of footwear, but still had the same results- pain, and the need to purchase insoles over and over again.

There was a point in time when, I suppose, somebody was tired of listening to me complain so they recommended the Tony Lama TLX soled boots- I chose the TW2006 style as it best fit my foot.  Throughout all my years on that concrete, this boot was the clear winner for me.

Check out our selection of Tony Lama TLX soles right here, we have four separate models to choose from.

Over the years, that very first purchase and my experience with the boot has led to 4-5 more pair- Yes, all the boots in the picture are mine and no I am not a hoarder.

This is the boot that Jesse is holding, click here to see the specs (they're priced around ~$175).

My old boots still get some use depending on the situation; however, I certainly will not hesitate to purchase another pair when my newest are ready to retire into my personal boot hall of fame.

P.S. The boots are also very good in water and I even use this boot quite often for hunting- it is light and comfortable even on uneven ground- for me anyways.

No matter what you do in your profession it is safe to say that our footwear provides us with the comfort and protection that allows us to do the work we do.

Just like the tires on a car or truck, your footwear will need to be rotated or replaced in time for the best performance, and this boot may not be the right solution for you, but for Jesse it worked, and still works well.
