Lewiston, Idaho Fishing Report 10.04.18

Lewiston Fishing Report

Lochsa River (ID)

The current flow is 398 cfs at Lowell. Fall fishing has hit the area! The mornings are becoming crisper, and the trout know that it’s go-time to gorge the gut as they try to fatten up before winter. The fishing is outstanding this time of year. October caddis are flying around, so an orange stimulator or an October caddis pattern will get the job done. Plus, streamers bring fish up and out of their hiding spots too.

North Fork Clearwater River (ID)

The current flow is 888 cfs at Canyon Ranger Station. A big spike in water has happened since last week. We aren’t sure if the river is blown out, and no reports from the NF have come through the shop. With the water being higher, you’ll want to take out the streamer rods and target the bigger fish that will be mulling around.

Clearwater River (ID)

The flow is 2,990 cfs at Spalding. It’s low and clear right now. The Clearwater is fishing really well for anglers using all tactics. We are starting to see more and more fish being caught. We have seen both fly caught fish and fish caught using conventional gear. The fishing will be good all the way up to Orofino. The flies that work will be your favorite steelhead pattern and color. Also, using small and sparse to a big intruder will work as well.

Grande Ronde (WA)

The flow is 621 cfs at Troy, Oregon. The fishing should be very productive on the Ronde right now. Water temperatures have come down and the fish are moving. You can use nymphs to fish for them, but personally, we like chasing them with skaters this time of year. Expect to see crowds around the mouth and at Boggan’s Oasis which is up and running again!

You’ll want to use October caddis skaters and Brett’s Klamath skaters. Finally, a sparsely tied size five fly will be very effective too.
