Things to do in Mead, Washington

Whoa-- when you think Mead, Washington, I bet you don't think, "tourist destination." Well, by the end of this blog, I'm going to try to change your mind on that issue.
If you live in Mead, and you're thinking, "There's nothing to do in this city," then this list will help you change your tune as well. We built a list of activities to do around the city that only a handful of locals have ever done from beginning to end, and in the process, we developed a list of the top things you can do while you're out here.
...AND if you get through the list and you've done EVERYTHING on here, please drop us a line and let us know if we missed anything--we'd love to hear about what you do around town.
So, without further ado, here's our list of things to do when you visit (or live in) Mead, Washington.
BBQ on Bear Lake- 35 acre lake located in a regional park just north of Chattaroy open for hiking, swimming, fishing and bbq'ing.
Check out the brick factory in Clayton- This small city has an average age of 28, nine years younger than the national average and offers a gateway to some great hiking. It also has a historic brick factory.
What's Cusick?- You can ride ATVs or launch boats near Cusick. The camping is great and you'll enjoy time away. The hiking is amazing, too.
Watch the boats on Deer Lake- Up near Bear Lake, just past Loon Lake, this is the place to go for great fishing. Home of the 4th of July boat parade.
Fish Diamond Lake- A natural lake with 6 miles of shoreline- this is a nice local spot to go fishing. Ask an employee about where to fish.
Eloika Lake- 7 miles north of Chattaroy, this is a great lake to catch black crappie and largemouth. It's open year-round and has a boat launch.
Drive down the Flowery Trail- Famous throughout America as one of the prettiest motorcycle routes, this road has high-speed curves and long straights. Deep and secluded forest. Highly recommended.
Catch a perch around Jump Off Joe- 105 acres of a beautiful lake 8 miles south of Chewelah. You can fish for trout, bass and perch.
Fish the Little Spokane River- A tributary of the Spokane River, this scenic river meanders from the north end of Spokane County to the west end where it meets the Spokane River.
Swim in Loon Lake- A popular water based destination. This 1,100 acre lake that is 2 miles long and 1 mile wide with a depth to 100 feet. Home to an unofficial 4th of July boat parade
Wander around Newport- Small friendly town on the Washington/Idaho border, 35 miles north of the Mead store.
Find the Ram in Riverside- A small community on highway 2 just 13 miles north of our mead store. Home of the Rams!
Visit Springdale- Originally called Squire City, this city was established in 1886 and was incorporated in 1903.
Hike and catch a fish at Suncrest- Located on the eastern shore of Long Lake, this community offers access to some great outdoor activities like fishing, boating, hiking and swimming.
Visit Wandermere- A community on the north edge of the Spokane city limits and just west of Mead.
Find a local from Chattaroy- originally founded in the 1880's, this community is located on highway 2 just miles from the Old Dragoon Rail Station.
Watch the parade in Deer Park- This city is home of the Settler's Day Parade the oldest parade in Washington. Come visit. You will find a wide range of parks and trails that the whole family will enjoy.
Find a tree on Peone Prairie- Just south of Doak Road, on top of a grassy hill, you'll see the Treaty Tree. Planted in the mid-1800s, this tree represents an agreement between the Spokane tribe and the American military. Superb picnic area.
Ride a horse and picnic on Mount Spokane- The place to go for year round recreation, skiing, hiking, picnics, horseback riding, any recreation you can think of you can do it here.
Take a picture of the Bowl & Pitcher- From the 90, take the Maple Street Bridge exit turn left on Maxwell Street. Stop at the Bowl & Pitcher trail-head. Cross the swinging bridge. You can go upstream for basalt rock formations or downstream for rapids.
Zip line at Nine Mile Falls- Downstream from Spokane, this is a great place to stop in for a bite or go zip lining or hiking.
Visit with two people around Green Bluff Growers- Formed in 1902, the present day incarnation offers a varied venue of harvests and festivals including the Apple Festival, late September through early October. A large concentration of family farms in small area. Really local feel.
See Tum Tum- A recreational gateway on Long Lake west of Spokane.
Visit Elk- A small farming town 20 miles north of the Mead store. Home of Elk days on Father's Day weekend.
Take a picture at Sacheen Lake- Called the Lake of Fallen Trees, this is a beautiful hiking destination.
Get a coffee in Ford- A secluded farming community 42 miles west of the Mead store.
