Things to do in Moses Lake, Washington

If you're planning a trip to Moses Lake... or even if you're just going to be driving through, there are so many things that you can do around the city.

Fish Connelly [Park]- Open to fisherman and boaters with unrestricted access to boat launch and dock systems. You can picnic here or even reserve sections for special occasions. Be sure to catch the hydroplane races ask an employee about details.

Take a picture walking the Drumheller Channels- Basalt butte-and-basin channeled scablands on the Columbia Plateau. A National Natural Landmark, this is something you have to get out and see.

Find a rainbow at Dry Falls- The must see on this list. This is the remnant of what was the biggest waterfall in the world, and is one of North 40 Fly Shop's "Top Spots" with rainbows the particular draw.

Figure out why it's called "Goat Island"- One of three islands in Moses Lake.

Find a shell from Hanford [Reach National Monument]- This is one of only two National Monuments maintained by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This area has a desert and a river. Good salmon fishing.

Take a picture of the clouds on Lake Chelan- The largest natural lake in Washington, the name means "deep water" and for good reason. The lake is over 1,400 feet deep and the third deepest lake in the world.

Take a picture of the bridges on Marsh Island- This is a great series of islands connected by floating bridges. Great place to get out and enjoy views on the water.

take a picture of a street sign in Neppel- This was the first township established by settlers. The township was began to support dairy farmers and an economy based on cheese production. Milwaukee Railroad connected this town to the rest of the line in 1912.

Hike Northrup Canyon- 30 minutes from Moses Lake city center, this drive is one of a kind. Multi-hued rocks rise out of the coulees and you will never see a sunset like the ones in Northup. Perfect for hikes if you're lucky, you'll find the trail-head to be almost empty.

Visit Potholes [Reservoir] and don't get a single mosquito bite- A series of little lakes or, "potholes," leading to the reservoir with 20,000 acres of surface water that affords great recreational opportunities. Don't forget your bug spray the mosquitoes and other bugs are bad.

Have lunch on Rocky Ford [Creek]- This is a pretty spot for a picnic. Not to be missed in the summertime. There's also a well-kept secret destination in this geographic vicinity for the fly fisherman out there. There's a certain creek you'll want to hit. Ask one of our employees about it.

See if you can find a sign with Salt Lake on it- The first name of Moses Lake.

Camp the Sand Dunes- The Sand Dunes are the best destination around if you're looking to ride ATVs. As the name implies, this is a sandy area with access to the lake. Camping is permitted. Ask an employee for details.

Walk Seep Lake- Almost 5,000 acres of channeled scablands, this area is often subject to burns so it is mostly grass. Beautiful place to visit.

See Steamboat Rock [State Park] in winter- Camping is available on the peninsula that juts into Banks Lake, a 26-mile long lake and wildlife preserve. Great in winter or summer, this is a must see on the list.

Take the family to Sun Lakes- Everything you can think of for water rec is here. Boating, fishing, swimming, theme parks, sun bathing this is the place to take the family or to get out on the water.

Paddle the Winchester Wasteway- The place to go for paddling. This is one of the best paddling spots in Washington. You'll want to get out on the water here ask an employee about what type of gear you will need.

Catch a sunset at Banks Lake & The Gorge- These are prime places to view the natural beauty around Moses Lake. There is also a huge amphitheater here that attracts many artists from around the world. There might be a concert in the works ask an employee about how to get out to these places if you don't already know.

Take a picture of the Grand Coulee Dam- This is a great place to go fishing and one of the largest dams in the U.S. Not to be missed.
