Camping Out on the Mo

Mid Canon was fucampingonmo1ll when we got there Saturday so my wife, son, and I cruised up river to the dam. Cornfed and his wife Tristen, as well as Paul and Alyse were meeting us up here but because I assumed we were camping at Mid, and because there is no cell service at Mid I had to go round our friends up off the lower river. If you camp at the dam, don't drive on their grass... Holy. Cows.

Not too many fish rising right now...it's spotty. However, there is a smattering of Caddis, BWO's, pseudos, midges, on the water in the evening. We did the dry fly thing for a little bit but quickly switched to swinging streamers. Nymphing guys were hammering EM. Nymph small BWO nymphs and some small midges... It's all working. Cornfed sweeped Paul and I. Olive sculpin was the ticket and even included a nice Walleye in the mix of swung fish.

The mornings are still putting out big trico hatches...these are the best trico hatches I've seen for at least three years. Also midday there is a really good callebaetis hatch coming off as well. However Sunday was windy and blew most the bugs off the water. Fishing is good and getting better.campingonmo2 There are a few weeds but not as bad as last year, and hopefully this cool weather cleans it up fast this fall.

For the double hand crew...it's time! We landed quite a few on swung streamers. Check out Ish's Cool Herc in the shop. It's working. Don't leave your sunglasses in your running line and then cast (I will be purchasing new Costas tomorrow). Cheers...
