If I were stuck on a desert island and my life depended on one lure I would want a Kastmaster spoon in my survival kit. Few lures approach the Kastmaster's ability to target a wide array of species. And this spoon’s versatility is unmatched—it can be cast and retrieved, jigged or trolled. Fished in any fashion, the Kastmaster is simple, timeless, and deadly effective.

Sussing Fish Out

The Kastmaster is the perfect searching lure. For their size, these spoons pack considerable weight. Their slim profile combined with mass makes for long casts that easily cut through wind. This allows you to quickly cover a lot of water without moving. Because of that weight you can also quickly sink the lure to a desired depth and vary retrieval speeds, which allows you to cover the entire water column. Doing so, you’ll likely find fish fast.

Proven Pattern

The comedian Mitch Hedburg once said, "Fish are always eating other fish. If fish could scream, the ocean would be loud as sh __.” There are few fish out there that pass up eating smaller fish but not many. The strong flash and thump of Kastmaster spoons mimic a fish’s movements and entice predators to strike based on visuals alone. But, the Kastmaster also creates disturbance in the watering that excites the lateral lines of predatory fish hunting in turbid water. So, this lure works in challenging conditions, too. Additionally, the vibrant palette of colors and metallic finishes available in Kastmasters allows you to mimic regional baitfish no matter where you live.

Banks, Boat, or Ice

I've swung Kastmasters on rivers big and small and bank-fished small alpine lakes and giant reservoirs with them. Additionally, Kastmasters are ideal for trolling behind the boat. With built in weight they can effectively work the top five feet of the water column and lead can be added if you want to go deeper. When my favorite lakes freeze over I simply tip the Kastmaster’s hooks with a little bait and vertically jig them through the ice. A free-falling Kastmaster flutters erratically and draws fish from a long distance. The bait helps seal the deal.

Whether you are looking to stock your tackle box for a trip, or just shopping for your favorite angler, you can't go wrong with Kastmasters. Kastmasters are one of the most versatile lures on the planet and they work in lakes, rivers and saltwater. You can fish them in open water or through the ice and they should perform nicely. So, novice or expert, if you want a lure that has a proven track record and catches fish, grab some Kastmasters and hit the water.
