Frogg Toggs Review

It starts like this: we were going to be out on the boat in the middle of a lake with absolutely no cover.

The night before our trip I decided that I needed some kind of rain gear so that I wouldn't be completely miserable if it did rain.

I talked with some of our clothing sales people at North 40, and they were talking up Frogg Toggs like it was the-be-all-end-all of anything rain gear saying how lightweight they were and how breathable they were and, "Oh yes, they are completely waterproof."

Well, what got me wasn't the fact that they are completely water proof but that they are breathable. I remember the days of the vinyl rain "slickers" and how they might keep the water off of you, but you're no better off because you are trapped inside of a plastic bubble sweating as much as it's actually raining.

Then there was the cost difference, the Frogg Toggs are cheaper to buy and that is always something that I look for! I decided that the Frogg Toggs would be the way that I would go so I bought the rain jacket. The next day Don and I were out fishing and sure enough, a big rain cloud come over and it starts pouring down rain.

I gingerly pulled out my fancy new Frogg Toggs jacket, slip it on, zip it up and go back to fishing. Meanwhile Don is struggling with his old vinyl gear. By the end of our trip that day, I had Don sold on the validity of how good this gear really is. While he was sweating it out in his plastic bubble I was comfortable and sweat free, not to mention dry!

Why are Frogg Toggs the-be-all-end-all of anything rain gear?

1. The cost difference: the Frogg Toggs are cheaper to buy and that is always something that I look for!
2. Ease of use: No more struggling with old vinyl gear.
3. Breathability: Wear vinyl and you sweat sometimes more than it rains. Not so with Frogg Toggs ultra-breathable construction.
4. Durability: I have owned mine for years. Same gear still going strong.
5. Packability: That's right. You can roll them up anywhere. I keep my jacket AND pants in an old shoe box!

Flash forward to present day... he and I both go out fishing with our Frogg Toggs in tow. They are incredibly durable, they don't take up much space to store, and in fact I keep both my jacket and my pants in an old shoe box! I can tell anyone from personal experience getting outfitted in rain gear in a small boat is no easy task but the Frogg Toggs brand rain gear has never let me down!
