Consistent Temperatures Matter

So as far as maintenance goes, you really just want to make sure you're storing your bow in a really consistent temperature area. You don't want it to be super hot, you don't want to be super cold outside of when you go hunting with it. It really shouldn't go through a bunch of changing temperatures all the time, cuz you're gonna basically bleed the wax out and cause the strings to basically deteriorate at a faster rate. And if you do that, if you store it correctly, you shouldn't have to really wax your strings a whole lot.

When you do wax, typically what I do is if I'm getting ready to go hunting, I'll just get a quick coat of wax on it. I really, you don't want to over wax. And then all this serving here where there's thread tied around your bowstring, you don't want to do any wax on this stuff. Because what ends up happening, is that wax gets in between the threads and it'll hold onto dirt and that dirt is gonna actually deteriorate your serving faster.

How to Wax a Bowstring?

So you really just want to do it on the exposed actual bowstring. And what you'll do is, like this is a boning accelerator wax, you just scrape just a little bit off on the string and you just work it in with your fingers kind of melted into that string. And that's gonna be more than enough for that section of bowstring to keep it covered. If you feel like you put too much on, you can wrap some serving around the string and be able to scrape off the excess wax off your bowstring.

And then things to look forward to let you know it's time to go ahead and replace your bowstring if you see any separation in your serving, where the string underneath it is being exposed, you're gonna want to go ahead and get that replaced. Basically, this stuff here is to protect the bowstring underneath from these high abrasion points on your cams and your mods. So when that starts to deteriorate and break down, you're gonna want to go ahead and really think about putting a new string on it.
