Lewiston Fishing Report

Lochsa River (ID)

Flows are at 970 cfs at Lowell. Fishing has been great!  Summertime fishing on the Lochsa can be truly amazing.  Anglers have been reporting catching fish on those same attractors patterns we wrote about last week. Most folks are heading up high on the river past Wilderness Gate-Way. The more productive fishing will be in the tributaries. The water is cooler and crisp for keeping trout happy. I have been told that the construction delays have not been any longer than 15 minutes. If we were you, we would be leaving as early in the morning as your body allows you to, to get up the river. The better fishing on the main stem will be in the morning and later in the evening. Hoppers in the afternoon could bring some fish up if the water temperatures don’t rise too high.

North Fork Clearwater River (ID)

Flows are 1,520 cfs at Canyon Ranger Station. Folks are reporting great fishing in the mornings, slower in the afternoon and awesome in the evening. Stimulators, hoppers, and caddis patterns are the flies we are seeing most folks buy for the North Fork. Water temperatures are still spiking pretty darn high in the afternoon. So, go ahead and give the trout a break around that time and go pick some berries. The fruit is out and bountiful if you are willing to put in a little work.

Grande Ronde (WA)

Flows are 436 cfs at Troy, Oregon. The flows are nerve-racking low at the moment. We need to get some rain to turn the trout fishing back on. Bass fishing will still be productive on the lower part of the river below Troy; topwater in the morning, low and slow in the afternoon, then back to topwater in the evening. Finding deeper slots can bring out the big girls and boys. Have faith and the fishing will turn into catching. Have fun out there!
