The Hoot Owl

At 6:30 am we were out the door in Sandpoint, ID, and after a night of fishing, eating, and shenanigans with the awesome people that live in Noho, #idahome we were in need of... coffee and bacon.  I repeat; we were NOT looking for lettuce wrapped, spinach filled, egg white burritos; coffee and bacon.

thehootowl1Only a few breakfast hot spots open up early enough for us in Sandpoint, one being Connie's, and a few others but this morning we were headed to the Hoot Owl. Not that it matters, but the Hoot Owl Cafe's background is a bit fuzzy. The building has been there since 1942 and was previously a drive-in... so I'll say a rough, 30-40 years. You won't find it online, but that's the info I gathered, plus I'd driven by a hundred times--and this morning, we entered "the owl."

I'd have been really happy with coffee and bacon BUT good luck slimming your "platter de hoot owl" to just pig and roasted beans.  Too many temptations.  And while there are plenty of energy injecting options, The Bacon Cake made me smile.  Yep, all a menu has to say is this to make me a satisfied dude in the morning, "A large hot cake with bacon bits cooked right in and topped with two eggs your way - $6.95."  It is awesome and I give it all my thumbs up (2).

One other thing I really like about local places like this, right on there menu it says this, "Substitutions??? You bet.  Just ask and we will do our best.  If you can describe it, We Can (almost anyways) Make It."  Hoot Owl peeps (or the regulars that visit there), if you ever see this: thank you, this is an awesome customer service statement and far too uncommon.  Nice job!  We'll be back.

Readers-- if you get a chance, this cafe is MUST DO when you are in the area.
