Top 13 New Farm and Ranch Products for 2018 - Day #1
We scoured the Mid-States show today in search of the best new farm and ranch products coming to the market. The Mid-States trade show is the largest show in the United States for Farm and Ranch retailers and is hosted twice a year in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Currently only 41 businesses in Canada and the United States are invited to participate, and North 40 Outfitters is proud to be one of those 41 companies.
While many of these products won’t be seeing store shelves until 2018 we wanted to be sure to give you a preview so that the North 40 Life community had the chance to see it first.
Country Companion Senior
The latest edition to the Country Companion line of feeds will be an updated senior horse feed to help put healthy weight on your older horses. This feed is a pelleted feed with added oils to make the pellets softer for older horses who often have teeth issues.
Farm Innovators Heated Poultry Drinker
This is a new 2-gallon design that is uniquely designed with the chicken nipples on the side of the bucket. It comes equipped with a 60-watt heater so it will never freeze. It’s easy to refill, it’s translucent so you can check water levels, and can accommodate up to 15 chickens by hanging it or sitting on the ground.

Fill-Rite Tutill Nextec Fuel Transfer Pump
This new 25 GPM (gallon per minute) pump from Fill-Rite is a continuous duty brush-less system. What’s that mean? It means you can run it all day long with no waiting and a continuous, adjustable flow. The pump comes fully equipped with an 18-foot hose and high flow nozzle.
Gallagher Insulated Inline Post
We are excited about this one. This is a brand-new type of electric fence post made of 1-inch fiberglass incased in PVC, which means this is going to be one of the most flexible and durable posts you can make. These posts are made for permanent projects and can be driven in to the ground just like a t-post. The bottom of the post has holes to allow root growth to develop and continuously strengthen the post.

Bee Space Mellivo Bee Boxes
These aren’t brand new, but we have never talked about them before and the line is probably new to a lot of our North 40 Life community. This bee box has a patented poly coating that’s FDA food-grade rated and helps makes these boxes nearly indestructible… think rhino lined bee boxes you can eat off.
DeWalt Flexvolt Cordless Compressor
This is the world’s first completely cordless power air compressor. This runs off DeWalt’s 60-volt platform and can run any finish nailer all day to up to 1300 shots. This pancake compressor is a 2.5-gallon size making it extremely portable. This will also be a great tool for filling farm trucks and tractor tires in more remote situations.
Schumacher SL65 Lithium Battery Jumper
Ahead of the show, we meet with Schumacher to get a preview of the new line up of Lithium Ion jump starters. Stores are already receiving this new product on the shelves. However, for a few of our staff, this was the first time seeing this pocket sized SL65 jump starter in person. It comes with a 1 and 2 amp USB ports so you can also charge your phones and tablets. It comes fully equipped with jumper cables, and one of the coolest features? You can leave it untouched for a full year, and it will hold its charge and STILL jump your vehicle.
Grandpa Gus’s Mouse Repellent
The latest in rodenticide alternatives is a new product called Grandpa Gus. This is a peppermint scent mouse deterrent that smells great to us, but evidently not so great to mice.
Drinking Post
A new name in Mid-States, Mike Stadiot, from the Drinking Post showed us a new animal waterer that provides higher quality water for less. Sound good? Yep… this new waterer brings water from your direct line below the frost line without the need for any electricity. When the animal is done drinking the water drops out of the bowl and back in to the ground so that you have no algae build up, and no standing water. The benefits of this waterer leave you with cleaner water that is less expensive to run.
Rugged Ranch Square Bale Feeder
This is a brand new product from Rugged Ranch products. If you have goats you are probably familiar with their galvanized feeders (or if you have been in the yards of North 40 Outfitters), but this new feeder is a vertical fed square bale feeder designed with the goat owners in mind.

Oklahoma Steel Panel Connector
At first we were like ummm… “that’s your new product launch?” as we sat in front of the Oklahoma Steel booth listening to them pitch their new products. Although the name of this product was unofficially released in front of us in the booth as their “steel panel connector,” it is an easy and obvious solution for connecting wire panels. I think we all know that sometimes the best ideas are simple solutions. No more cutting and twisting, or whatever else you might be currently doing to make a strong connection.

Diamond Loop Knife
We asked Diamond Farrier products Sales Manager, Ed Szymanski, what his favorite new products are for 2018. His answer is their new loop knife. Loop knives are becoming a favorite design among farriers because of the efficiency they offer. This new product from Diamond is stainless steel, well designed, reasonably priced, and the sharpest in its class due to the high quality steel used on the blade.
Kondex Straw Claw Blade
Kondex is the leader in Made in USA cutting parts. If you need to replace your machines cutting parts you want to make sure they are made by Kondex. We met up with Jake from Kondex Corp this year at Mid-States so he could show us their new Straw Claw Blade. Kondex says, “This new blade is the ultimate in residue management. The blade uses our patented self-serrating design as well as a laser cladding additive to reduce wear and keep these blades sharp longer.” The results are a blade that has less chipping which helps maintain rotor balance and will ultimately require less maintenance on your late model flail-style choppers.
