Exploring Twisp, Washington: A Local Gem

After a quick visit to our store in Omak, we headed east to the small town of Twisp. As we drove further into the Methow Valley towards the Cascades, the Okanogan landscape progressively changed from sagebrush laden ground to what resembled East Glacier to a native Montanan.

Shortly after we encountered a bobcat, we arrived in Twisp at dusk in search of our hotel. We were given classic, small town directions (like turn right at the Dairy Queen, left at the pool) and told our hotel was located right behind the local pub. As we neared the end of town, we began questioning whether or not we should flip on the GPS just as the pub sign came into sight.

We parked outside the Twisp River Suites and sorted through the waves of gear falling out of the trunk like an over stuffed cupboard. Behind the waders, tri-pods, muck boots, camping gear and marketing posters, we found our bags and made our way inside.

We were greeted by the friendliest crew I have ever encountered at a front desk who were genuinely excited to show us our rooms and host us for dinner.

Dinner consisted of a delicious soup with cheesy garlic bread (and an even better dessert) complete with an open mic night and the company of our Omak fly shop manager, Keith Roe and two local fishing guides, Leaf Seaburg of Methow Fishing Adventures and Rod Griff of Griff's Fly Fishing.

In between the sounds of local musical talents like Oaken' Annie and Fred Cooley (channeling his inner James Taylor) and Gordon Lightfoot, we talked shop and were tempted to hit the river with Leaf the next day more than once. Sadly, we had to decline as we had a full day ahead of us traveling over 500 miles to our Moses Lake, Lewiston and Spokane stores.

Here's a beginner's guide to the best coffee shops in the Northwest.

We retired to ridiculously comfortable beds that evening and awoke to a fridge full of fresh fruit and yogurt cups, quiche and a tin full of local Blue Star coffee.

Between the beautiful amenities, welcoming (and talented) local community we had the pleasure of spending the evening with, it was obvious we had found a gem to return to soon.
