What Ingredients do you need for an Onion Bomb?

Hi, I'm Ben with Discount Meats. I'm here today with North
40 Outfitters to show you how to make an onion bomb. Here's the ingredients
that it'll take, that we're going to be using today. We got Alpine Touch Pepper
Blend is our seasoning that we're going to be using and their Traditional
All-Purpose, very good stuff. You're going to need one egg, some breadcrumbs, a
large sweet onion. We got a little bit of basil, minced garlic, some Parmesan
cheese, some of our discount meats, sweet southern sausage, and some of our
ground beef, 85/15, and some of our Falls brand bacon.

How do you Prep an Onion Bomb?

I'll show you how to prep this onion out. You basically
lop the top off of it. Then you got the bottom to lop off, and then I always
remove this extra skin on the outside. You take your onion, and you want to go
halfway through it. And here's the tricky part is peeling these apart without
getting them to break. So we're going to start off with a half pound ground
beef. We're going to take our quarter pound of pork sausage. We got our third
teaspoon, we're using our Alpine Touch seasoning here and pepper blend, a half
tablespoon of black pepper. I have oregano, breadcrumbs, our Parmesan cheese. So
I just minced up basil in there and we got one whipped up egg. I'm going to add
in this to help as a binder. And then I'm going to hand mix it for a minute and
get it all consistent. So I'm going to dump that right in there and just start
squishing it together. As I got mixed up pretty decent, I'm going to press some
garlic in there, get some extra flavor in there. You got to love garlic.

How do you Assemble an Onion Bomb?

Once you got your onion bomb mixture all created, you got
your onion shells here, we're going to just put this meat wad in between. I
want to size it appropriately. If one's a little bit larger, put a little bit
more. You don't want to make them too big though, and have them like trying to
burst out and try to together. You want them just to fit in there nice. Okay now
we're going to wrap the onion bombs with some bacon. We're simply just going to
take some bacon here. And this is where you got to be careful because you can
prick your fingers with toothpicks and when you're handling these things, you
squeeze them tighter. I usually like to overlap that onion to help me keep it
together. I'm going to just stab it straight on down through here, leaving that
taller than I need it to be to see how I can place it in there.Yeah, let's try
to stretch this bacon out. And this is one that might not be the prettiest
thing. If you can't get it, it's all right. They still taste delicious. So just
take your time with it. Have fun with it. Because this bacon will crisp up
nicely. And there's your onion bomb.

What is the Best way to Cook an Onion Bomb?

When you're putting them on the grill, a little tip here
is to get a wad of tinfoil and make a little stand for them that your onion
bomb will be placed on. So when you're cooking it in your oven, on the grill,
they just stand upright. You don't want them to roll around. So give them a
little base, and that'll help when you're grilling them. Put them on your
smoker for 350 or in the oven. You want to cook them all the way through just
because you got that pork mixture. You want to hit 160 degrees. The last 10
minutes or so, I like to put barbecue sauce and have that nice charred outside
finish on. So I'm going to recommend that we do the Alpine Touch barbecue
sauce. Goes excellent with these. But once again, enjoy cooking them. And thanks
